A wedding day is a time for celebration! Many months are often spent preparing for the event; getting the right dress, flowers, invites and venue etc. One of the most important things a couple likes to get right for their guests (after the seating plan!) is the food at the Wedding Breakfast they will enjoy. A couple in Durham decided to do things a little different. It seemed wedding bells were chiming and food waste was calling. Yes, food waste was to be on the menu for the special day, in fact it was to be the only thing on the menu!

A Zest for Recycling Food

It really takes a special couple to take a leap of faith and do something that many others would shy away from. With the help of a local Community Interest Company, perfectly edible food heading for the waste bin was now heading for the table. 150 guests would also only find out what they would actually be served 24 hrs beforehand depending on what edible food waste would be sourced. No doubt, this young couple and their zest for recycling a traditional idea for something new struck a chord with many in attendance. However their innovative idea helps us all to re-evaluate our food waste, household waste and our recycling habits at home. Young people are seeing the future and the importance to change and hopefully with their enthusiasm they can teach us all to change.
